A-Vision-for-Purpose03
I believe that man should have vision. Many of the pillars of the Bible (Abraham, Moses, etc.) were men of vision. Without vision the people perish, but i want to open up a new view of true vision. We receive true vision after we've seen but a glimpse of the purpose God has for us... just a tiny taste of his plan. We run after that for which Jesus took hold of us.

God doesn’t operate out of vision. He doesn’t have a vision for your life or for your ministry, and He doesn’t have a vision for this planet. God only has purpose. He has a purpose for your life, and for the entire human race, and His purposes will be accomplished.

As I speak of “vision” in this sense, I am speaking of that forward-looking hope of future progress. Vision is hopeful, purpose is as good as done. God does not merely “hope” that His plans will be fulfilled, for He has determined a priori that they will be accomplished. Now, God does impart vision to us (Habakkuk 2:2), but it is always in conformity with His purpose. In other words, a true vision from God is certain to be fulfilled, for it is the purpose of God revealed in advance. Much of the time, when we think we’re operating out of godly vision, we’re merely working in human creativity. This is evidenced by the sheer volume of goals that we’ve never achieved.

After getting a general sense of the game plan, servants develop a vision of what they can do for God; a friend, on the other hand, is God’s confidant who hears His heart and perceives His purpose for his life and ministry thus giving something a little stronger than vision without out-ruling it.

God doesn’t ask us to be creative, but to be obedient. Sometimes our creativity can damage the kingdom of God, because we mobilize believers in efforts that didn't originate in the heart of God. The way of God is this: "Wait on Me, until I speak to you." Don't feel condemned, though, He works out everything according to His purposes and plans. What he started he will finish.

I’ve discovered that it’s much easier to be creative than obedient, because creativity requires planning but obedience requires listening. It’s easier to plan than to listen. Sometimes I can come up with ten great ideas before God says anything! A servant operates in the vision of what could be; a friend operates in the confidence of what will be. A friend of God will accomplish far more, for he will not muddy the waters with his own creative juices. Instead of getting in God’s way, he will get in God’s ways.

Here’s the amazing part: When you begin to hear God’s ideas and to act upon them, others will be astounded at your “creativity.” The reason is simply because God’s thoughts and ways are so different from ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), that when He begins to reveal His purposes to us they will be strikingly extraordinary. One way you can know it’s God’s idea and not yours is when you know you could have never come up with that idea on your own. Thus is where we get Divine Ideas, etc.

God's ways will always be different from your ways. You can get frustrated with that, or you can choose to be attracted by that. The fact that I do not understand His ways will fuel your desire to know Him better.

If we’re all called to be obedient rather than creative, can you understand how this puts us all at the same level? The naturally creative person has no advantage over the one who feels like a creative dullard. We’re all reduced to this one common denominator: we must hear from God. There is great liberty here for those who will receive it.

Paul writes in Ephesians 3:20, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us..." There is a power in me that far exceeds my thinking. There is a power in me that far exceeds my imagination. I'm going to dispense with my own ingenuity, and tune into what He wants to do by His incredible power which resides in and flows through me.

There is no closer friend than the one that serves. We walk as friends of God. And in love, we have become bondservants to His will and ways. When we begin to feel Him flow through us we are transformed from a man with vision to a child of God walking in the purposes of his Father... His servant and His friend.

Wow...I disagree with so much of this...but it sure sounds good doesn't it? If I wanted to take the time...yes I could really dissect this...and yes with scriptures. I do believe in waiting on God...but balance that with faithfully stewarding the areas of our giftings....whether it is creativity, writing or whatever the case maybe...as we are faithful to steward our portion in FAITH & maintain proper balance of our lives...then God is faithful to open doors and increase that WE then direct and guide to the best of our knowledge...agreeing with the vision set before us, according to the pattern of Gods heart of goodness towards mankind, which starts with truth and repentance.

Interesting opinion/perspective, I'm glad Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Nehemiah and many others who choose to co labor in faith according to the promises of God did not waver.

I hear alot of colorful opinions here...Im sure some of you would say the same of me....

Shalom...selah....grace,
Elaine

I loved being a servant of God, but it was when I understood that His love for me made me a 'Friend' I totally fell in love with God. I have been an artist, scrimshaw, for 31 years. 'My creativity'though always God given, absolutely exploded when I became obedient to His direction for it. He changed the way I marketed things, made it a ministry as well as a blessing, included traveling and wonders beyond what I could have ever dreamed. God's 'vision' for me has often changed, sometimes being a 'direction' sometimes being a 'destination', but His purpose for me is always eternity. I liked this message, it confirmed to me that it is a wonderful miracle that God, indeed, calls us His Friends.

I believe there is much wisdom in what you are saying, Bob. So many of us are quick to dream dreams for God that spring independently from our own imagination. While I'm sure the Lord sees our hearts and smiles, I believe he desires we form vision that includes his dreams, or as you would say, "purposes." Sure, there is a place for creativity - for a man plans his course and the Lord determines his steps - but the first and most critical part of vision casting is waiting on the Lord and listening to his heart until... great point.
