General

What are the dates of ATC 2010?

Main Session 1: June 12 – 27 (Includes Fascinate: June 24 – 26)
Worship and Music Intensive: June 28 – July 7
Main Session 2: July 10 – 25 (Includes Fascinate: July 22 – 24)
Justice Intensive: July 26 – August 2

What is the cost of ATC?

The $50 non-refundable deposit per teen required with registration is applied towards the tuition. ATC Main Sessions cost $495; the Worship and Music Intensive costs $345; and the Justice Intensive costs $295.

Are the sessions the same?

Both Main Sessions of camp have the same schedule. There will be some difference in content, but the basic schedule and topics will be the same in both Main Sessions. The Worship and Music Intensive is focused on leadership development and learning how to lead a prayer meeting as a singer, musician or intercessor. The Justice Intensive is focused on learning what it means to partner with the heart of Jesus Christ as He executes justice in our nation.

Can teens attend all sessions?

Yes, teens may attend multiple camp sessions.

Is there housing between sessions?

If your teen is staying for more than one consecutive session teens must enroll in Stay Over Camp. Camp schedule and supervision is continued during Stay Over Camp for a fee of $33 per night.

Does my teen have to have medical insurance?

Yes, all teens coming to ATC must have medical insurance. If your teen does not have medical insurance there are many companies which sell short-term medical insurance for as little as $30. Please note insurance will need to be purchased before sending in your teen's Registration Forms.

What does unplugged mean?

  • No cell phones
  • No internet access
  • No MP3 players

ATC is an unplugged camp dedicated to calling teens to unplug from the world and spend a part of their summer radically pursuing Jesus with a group of like-minded friends. If a teen desires to call home we ask that they use the camp phone weekday evenings from 5 to 7pm. We have a phone open for teens to use each evening during a scheduled time. Teens must use a calling card or call collect if they are calling long distance. In the event of an emergency please call our offices and we will immediately ask your teen call you. The Office phone lines are manned 9AM–7PM by ATC secretaries Monday through Saturday throughout the sessions and an emergency phone is manned 24/7. If your teen will be flying we encourage you to send a phone with your teen to use during travel. ATC staff will keep the phone during camp and return it at the completion of camp.

Registration

When will I find out if my teen has been accepted?

Once we receive a registration form and it has been processed, we send out a confirmation email to parents, using the email listed on the registration form. Email is our primary method of communication with parents and teens.

When can I make travel arrangements for my teen?

Only make travel arrangements after receiving the acceptance email.

When are the camp fees due?

Your total camp fees are due one month before your first session of camp begins. If you apply after that date you must send in all camp fees with the registration packet.

How do I pay?

You can call the IHOP–KC business office at (816) 763-0200 X. 2250 and pay by credit card. Or you can send a check or money order to:
IHOP–KC Attn. ATC 2010
3535 E. Red Bridge Road
Kansas City, MO 64137

Are scholarships or discounts available?

We do not offer scholarships. There is a $50 sibling discount for each additional teen in the same family attending the same track.

Getting Ready

What should my teen bring?

You should plan on packing enough clothing for the full camp session. Bring clothing for both outdoor activities (which can get dirty) and indoor activities. All baggage is subject to search.

Label everything! Many teens bring similar items to ATC, making it difficult to sort personal belongings when it’s time to go home. It is always best to label all items with your teen’s name (use labels or permanent marker). Don’t plan on buying new clothing for camp as during camp it is hard to take care of new clothing; expect your teen to return home needing to do laundry.

Please download the Packing List for a complete list of recommended items.

What should we not pack?

All baggage subject to search. The following items are not allowed at ATC: hair dye, fireworks, weapons, firearms, piercing supplies, mobile phones, MP3 players, iPods, laptops, CD players, or any entertainment devices. ATC is an unplugged camp dedicated to calling teens to unplug from the world and spend a part of their summer radically pursuing Jesus with a group of like-minded friends. ATC's phone lines are manned for parents to speak to ATC office staff 9AM–7PM daily throughout the Session and an emergency phone number is manned 24/7, should parents need to contact their teens in case of emergency. We encourage parents and friends to stay in touch via mail or e-mail.

What are the official start and end times?

All campers must arrive at check in between 1 PM and 4 PM on the day that their camp session begins. All campers must depart between 10 AM and 12 PM on the day that their session of camp ends. If your teen will be staying under ATC supervision between two consecutive camp sessions they must enroll in Stay Over Camp.

If my teen is flying, when should I schedule the flight?

Please note we only facilitate pick-up from Kansas City International Airport. We are not able to pick up or drop off teens at bus or train stations.

Do not book airline tickets before receiving your confirmation for registration. As ATC contracts with a local shuttle company for specific times on specific dates, all flights need to arrive and depart within the times set. Arriving flights must arrive between 8 AM and 3 PM on the day that camp begins. Departing flights must depart between 8 AM and 3 PM on the day that camp ends. We are unable to accommodate any flights outside of our scheduled shuttle runs. Airport shuttle service is $30 round-trip (no discount for one-way) and should be paid after registration confirmation is received. If your teen's flight is booked outside of the set times, you will need to book a taxi. Do not book airline tickets before receiving your confirmation for registration.

What if my teen is flying as an unaccompanied minor?

It is your responsibility to check with your particular airline regarding travel by minors. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines have very lenient unaccompanied minor policies, and thus are the easiest for us to work with. Different airlines have different regulations regarding the age they consider a minor. We have had problems in the past with not being allowed to pick up teens under a certain age without proper documentation. You are responsible to determine these rules, to make sure the proper documentation is in place and to contact us with any special circumstances at awakening@ihop.org.

Can my teen drive to camp?

Yes, a teen may drive to camp. We do not allow teens to drive themselves or other teens while attending ATC. All transportation required while at ATC will be provided by ATC through our shuttles. Therefore, it is the policy of ATC that teens driving to Kansas City for ATC park their vehicle for the duration of ATC. Teens will be responsible to hold keys for vehicles driven to camp.

 During Camp

What is a normal day like?

Camp days are fun but busy. Breakfast is followed by morning electives, lunch, afternoon activity or class and small groups and dinner. The evening main sessions are a time of corporate worship, announcements, teaching and preaching with ministry time. Expect your teen to return home tired, but excited about all God has done in his or her life.

Lodging

Lodging is dormitory style. Roommate requests are only considered if both parties request the other and both teens are within one year of age. We do our best to accommodate roommate requests but cannot guarantee that all requests will be met.

Who are the counselors?

All counselors go through an application process which includes references, an interview and a background check. Most of the counselors are students at IHOPU or part of the staff at the International House of Prayer.

How do I contact my teen?

The best way to communicate is with encouraging letters and e-mails.

Email: atcteenmail@ihop.org

ATC will print out any emails to campers sent to atcteenmail@ihop.org; please include your teen's name in the subject. If a teen desires to call home we ask that they use the camp phone weekday evenings from 5 to 7pm. Teens must use a calling card or call collect if they are calling long distance. In the event of an emergency please call our offices and we will immediately ask your teen call you.

How much money should I send with my teen?

While there are no required expenses during ATC there will be opportunity to visit the Forerunner Bookstore and Higher Grounds Café during the week and a daily snack and beverage Canteen open for teens. At registration, teens also have opportunity to purchase the following: canteen cards, apparel (sweatshirts and t-shirts), and pre-order MP3 or DVD series from the Sessions. Past campers have suggested approximately $100 per session.

What are grounds for dismissal?

The director reserves the right to dismiss any camper whose influence or actions may be detrimental to the best interest of camp members. These actions include but are not limited to: disrespect of authority, dyeing or cutting hair (yours or someone else's), giving or getting piercings, drugs, weapons, theft, self abuse, inappropriate physical contact, sexual actions.

What happens if my teen gets homesick?

Homesickness is common among teens during summer camp—a wonderful home deserves to be missed! It can be hard to make adjustments to a new environment with new people; however, it is a great opportunity for growth. We want to encourage teens to embrace the adventure God has in store for them but know it isn’t always easy. Understand that the camp schedule is busy and homesickness will hit a camper most often during a quieter moment when they have a chance to write and imagine what they may be missing at home. Should you receive a letter from your homesick teen, send him or her an e-mail and call ATC’s offices if you have concerns. We are happy to get you in touch with your teen’s counselor if the need arises. Help your teen understand ATC’s communication policy so he or she isn’t surprised once they arrive. Knowing you are aware communication will happen primarily through letters, and knowing you are excited about the summer experience, will help your teen be excited as well.
