International House of Prayer University

About IHOPU

IHOPU’s mandate is to equip and send out believers who love Jesus and others wholeheartedly to preach the Word, heal the sick, serve the poor, plant churches, start houses of prayer, and proclaim the return of Jesus.

IHOPU stands in an environment of 24/7 worship-based prayer and a thriving missions base. We are establishing a community built around the centrality of the Scripture, prayer, and worship in a context where the Word of God is continuously expressed through singing, praying, and expressions of ministry to others.

Seven Distinctive Features of IHOPU

Passion for Jesus
Enjoying intimacy with God is the foundation of all character formation and ministry.

24/7 Intercessory Worship
As a community at IHOP–KC, we are both cultivating intimacy with God through adoring worship and contending for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to revive the Church into God’s highest expression of life in His Son, while laboring in prayer to usher in the great harvest.

Centrality of the Word of God
The Scriptures are taught from a scholarly perspective with an emphasis on practical application to ministry and personal holiness.

The Forerunner Ministry
We are committed to preparing ourselves and others for the return of the Lord Jesus.

Family of Believers
We are a like-minded, vibrant fellowship, encouraging one another in the truths of the gospel.

Ministry in the Power of the Spirit
We are committed to the ministry of the Holy Spirit through all the gifts of the Spirit.

Evangelism and Missions
Effective ministry training empowers us to evangelize the lost and fulfill the Great Commission.

A Spiritual Community

The International House of Prayer Missions Base seeks to be a community of believers who live out the two great commandments: to love God and to love one another (Mt. 22:37-39). IHOPU students are fully integrated into the community of the IHOP–KC Missions Base to help them live out these commandments daily. Students run alongside full-time intercessory missionaries, learning in an atmosphere specially geared toward cultivating the lives of intercessory missionaries in training.

The Challenge

IHOPU is a full-time Bible school which exists to equip this generation in the knowledge of God and the power of the Spirit for the bold proclamation of the Lord Jesus and His return. Students embrace rigorous theological training and Sermon on the Mount lifestyles in the context of a thriving missions base fueled by 24/7 prayer. As a result, theological education obtained in the classroom is intrinsically connected to intimacy with Jesus and hands-on ministry and practical experience. Prior to the return of Jesus, the earth will experience unprecedented worldwide revival and  upheaval as God shakes everything that can be shaken (Heb. 12:26). The Word of God tells us that corporate prayer and a radical commitment to pursue and proclaim the knowledge of God are our only hope.

The Mandate

IHOPU’S mandate is to equip and send out missionaries as dedicated intercessors and evangelists who work to see revival within the Church and a harvest among those searching for God. We are consumed with the mandate to train believers to love Jesus and others wholeheartedly as they keep the prayer room fire burning and as they go forth to preach the Word, heal the sick, serve the poor, plant houses of prayer, and proclaim the return of Jesus across the earth. The heart of IHOPU is to engage in 24/7 worship and prayer.

Practical Ministry and Outreach

Outreach and ministry are important values of IHOPU and IHOP–KC. Jesus is the great evangelist. Ministry and evangelism are a natural outflow of spending long hours in prayer and communion with Jesus. Each semester, our faculty and students participate in a number of different outreaches and ministry trips. Large-scale, organized evangelistic events may include outreach at a local haunted house at Halloween and the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Weekly evangelism efforts may include feeding the homeless, evangelism teams, and planting Luke18 Project prayer groups on college and high school campuses.
